The Western musicians play
the lever harp
and/or
the pedal harp,
which may be
a simple action harp
or
a double action harp.

The pedal harp uses the pedal mechanism, to enable the musician to obtain chromatic modulations. Thus, by moving a pedal with the foot, the musician can play any of three pitches (sharp, natural, or flat) on each of the strings of the harp.
