Derived from the old harp of the Celts, the modern Celtic harp is a small non-pedal harp with 30 to 36 strings. Levers laid out on the neck make it possible to shorten vibrating length of the strings so as to raise the pitch by a semitone (half step). Thanks its small size, this instrument is often used to teach harp to small children. Nonetheless, it is a viable instrument with its own repertoire and technique, different from that of the pedal harp |
